A. Austin Garey received her PhD in anthropology from the University of California, Los Angeles. Her research examines how local interactions structure the significance of large-scale events (revolution, war, currency devaluation) in Russia and Ukraine.
She has conducted fieldwork in Irkutsk, rural Siberia, Moscow, and Odesa.
